IMF believes advancing green infrastructure will bolster global GDP by 0.7% over 15 years

The head of the fund, Kristalina Georgieva, noted that the IMF supports the transition to a low-hydrocarbon and climate-resilient economy, which "will help fight the causes of climate change and allow us to adapt to its consequences."
WASHINGTON, January 25. / TASS /. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) believes that combining stable growth in hydrocarbon prices with the promotion of green infrastructure will help increase global GDP by 0.7% over the next 15 years. This opinion was expressed by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, speaking on Monday in a video format at the summit on adaptation to climate change.
“As we try to cope with the pandemic and the economic crisis, we will have to face an even greater threat - climate change, - said Georgieva. - This poses a fundamental risk to economic and financial stability. However, it is also an opportunity to stimulate growth and create new [green economy] jobs. " “Our research has shown that the combination of stable growth in hydrocarbon prices and green infrastructure can strengthen global GDP in the next 15 years by about 0.7% and create millions of jobs,” she said.
According to the director, the IMF supports the transition to a new economy - low-hydrocarbon and climate-resilient, which "will help to combat the causes of climate change and adapt to its consequences."
